Trauma Worksheets

What is Grounding? Grounding is a set of simple strategies that can help you detach from emotional pain (e.g., anxiety, anger, sadness, self-harm). It is basically a way to distract yourself by focusing on something other than the difficult emotions you are experiencing. You may also think of grounding as centering, distracting, creating a safe place, or healthy detachment.

The Imagery Based Exposure worksheet is designed to guide clients through exposing themselves to strong negative emotions produced by a recent difficult past event. Through exposure to the memory, clients learn to sit with their discomfort until it begins to subside, thereby learning and practicing acceptance. Through exposing oneself to all of the feelings and urges felt in a particular situation and surviving this experience, the power the situation or memory holds reduces.

Interoceptive Exposure is based on the premise that exposure to panic-related physiological symptoms helps us recognize and feel more familiar with them when they arise unexpectedly.

Exploring Character Strengths can be used to help you recognize your personal character strengths. Your strengths are your positive traits and characteristics. They lead you to act, want, and feel ways that benefit both you and others.

Growing Stronger from Trauma Worksheet
Looking at the positives of a traumatic event is a core component of optimism, and a useful way to identify the personal resources that help us cope with adversity. This worksheet helps you find the silver linings of a traumatic experience, while appreciating the strengths that you have developed as a result. Use it to explore the strengths that you used to cope with your past trauma, and the new ones you’ve come out with as a result. The goal of this exercise is to help you cultivate a more balanced, positive perspective on trauma and adversity while recognizing ways to deal with future challenges.
